It's about time!

After 10 and a half years I FINALLY got my wedding dress preserved!  Thanks to my mom cleaning out her closets and my dad dropping it off at my doorstep.  So glad I finally got it done because Alanna is already talking about wearing it when she gets married.

Wellspring Stampede 2010

Today I ran the Wellspring Stampede 10K in Rapid City.  It was 44 degrees with 30 mile per hour winds out of the north (thankfully we didn't run straight north the entire race, we just ran straight north up the steepest part of the race).  After running into a brick wall (aka the wind)for a distance it was a decent run.

This is the map of my course.

This is a plot of my speed and elevation.

This is a graph of my course time.

This is the watch that made all of these graphs/maps possible.  What a superb piece of technology!

And these are the shoes that helped me cross the finish line!

I can't wait to do it again!  Maybe next time I will have a running partner!

Dance Sleepover Spring 2010

On Saturday, April 17th, the girls attended a sleepover at the dance studio.  There were about 80 dancers there.  They had pizza and lots and lots of other food, went for a ride in a limo, played games and watched movies.  Apparently, some of them even slept!!  Brad and I went out to dinner and watched a  movie at home.

Check out all the food!

These are just pictures from birthday parties over the last 4 years for which I had a digital camera.  I may just need to get the scanner out and post the earlier years' pictures, too.

We are in the planning stages of Makenna's upcoming 12th birthday party right now.  It is so hard to believe that my little girl is almost a teenager!

Makenna took this picture and I edited it.  It looks better in its normal size versus this smaller size I use on blogger.

Welcome, Abrie Faith

On April 3rd, when we got back to Denver from Florida we were lucky enough to stop and see my new niece, Abrie Faith.  She turned out to be an April Fool's baby, so she was only a couple of days old when we saw her.  She was so calm and quiet.  And who doesn't love holding a sleeping baby?  She is so precious.

Spotlight Dance Competition 2010

Over the weekend we travelled to Casper for Spotlight Dance Competition.  We left Friday after school and returned late Sunday afternoon.  The girls did an amazing job!  Our entire studio did exceptionally well and, as always, it was so much fun to watch!

Makenna got a Diamond for her solo and placed 3rd overall in the Junior Solo Division (out of 33)!  She also received the technical skill award from the judges, which is a very special award.

Her group tap dance got a diamond and placed 7th overall in the Teen Small Group Division.  They were soooo good.  They did an acapella section in the middle where the music turned off and the only thing you could hear was the music of their tapping feet.  We were actually surprised they didn't place even higher.

The small group Makenna danced in with 3 of her friends got a Ruby.  Her group lyrical got a diamond and, again, to our surprise did not place in the top 2 of that division.  Sometimes it is really hard to figure out what is going through the judges' minds.  I'm sure they must not know what they're talking about, it couldn't possibly be because I am biased?  However, I really don't understand why they gave her jazz dance an Emerald?  Now that was just crazy!  That, or I really missed something.  I guess I will watch it back on the dvd, because even the dancers and others in the audience were shocked.

Waiting to dance her solo.  I really wish this lady hadn't been in the picture (you would have thought I would have noticed that when I took the picture)!

Handing out awards as 2009 Miss Spotlight.
Waiting for her awards.

Makenna and her solo plaques.
What an awesome job!  We are so proud of you Makenna!

Now, unfortunately, you will notice that I don't have any pics of Alanna this time.  Her dances were all very close together with hectic costume changes so there was no time for pictures.

Alanna and her friend Keara placed 3rd overall in their duo (out of 11).  They got a diamond and we were so proud of them.  Her jazz dance and lyrical dance also got diamonds.  The lyrical dance placed 2nd overall.  Her hip hop, ballet, and tap all got rubies.

All of the dances looked so much better than last competition even though it had only been 3 weeks ago (and one of those weeks there was no practice due to Spring Break).  It has been wonderful to watch the girls grow and develop in their personalities and their dance technique.  We are so proud of both of them and their dancing always brings a smile to our hearts!  Keep dancing girls!!

Miami Vacation Pictures: Day 5

Our last day in Miami was on Friday, April 2nd.  We started off wandering around Lincoln Mall again, ate breakfast and tried to think of things to do.  Eventually we ended up on Jungle Island, but decided not to tour it because it was more for younger kids.  Since we couldn't find a taxi we just started walking into the city accross the causeway.  We walked about 3 miles or so  and ended up at the Hard Rock Cafe.  After that we got a $30 taxi ride back to our hotel where Makenna took a nap and the rest of us hit the beach one last time.  Unfortunately, Makenna didn't feel so good because she woke up with a cold and ended up missing out on the beach.  Later, we walked back down to Lincoln Mall where we ate dinner.  It turned out to be another great day.

These were taken after our lengthy walk over the causeway which resulted in the girls being tired and a a little cranky.

Replenishing their fluids at the Hard Rock after our long walk.

Drinking fresh squeezed juice at Pasha's, our new favorite restaurant.

What a great vacation!!  I love, love, love spending time with my family!!  Love you guys and look forward to doing it again real soon!
